EFS - ONLINE HELP

 Aliases

 BACK

The alias screen allows you to enter an alias for an actual user. You do NOT need to add an alias for every user in your organisation.  EFS automatically works this out from your domain name.  Use Aliases if:

  • Your local Mail server does not support mail aliasing,
     eg: info@company.com = joeb@company.com

  • Incoming mailing lists do not contain the local users email address,
    eg: list@topic.com = localuser@mydomain.com

  • You want to ignore forwarding mail for a specific email address,
    eg: olduser@company.com = IGNORE

You can also add an alias so that mail sent to someone@mydomain.com can be sent to an external user and domain. Such as office@mydomain.com = joe@overseas.com.au

Place a tick in the box shown to "ignore email to this user" (as shown by "fred@mydomain.com = NOTHING"). This means if you have an address you no longer want email forwarded for, eg: fred@mydomain.com then placing a tick in this box will mean EFS will ignore (thus not deliver) mail to this address.

Aliases are saved into the file EFSALIAS.TXT

Note: You are limited to 3 aliases in the standard version.

( If you are using Microsoft Exchange as your mail server, it is recommended you also use it for aliasing - not EFS. To do this, choose the appropriate Recipients Container, choose the desired mailbox to be aliased and press ALT ENTER (properties), click the E-mail Addresses tab, click the New button, choose Internet Address and type in the address you wish to alias)
