The Headers section is generally the most confusing to users of
EFS. It is really quite simple. Each email message contains a
"header", much like the top of an invoice, that has details of who the
message is addressed to, who it is from, where it has been, what the subject is,
what the content type is and so on. A typical message header may look
similar to the following:
To: bob@mydomain.com, fred@anotherdomain.com
From: another@person.com
Subject: Budgets for March
Message-ID: 123456789@mydomain.co.nz
X-Rcpt-To: bob@mydomain.co.nz
Body of the message goes here...
Most email messages contain the actual end-users email address in either the
To:, Cc:, Bcc: or Received: headers, and this is where EFS looks for message
recipients by default. You can add custom headers that indicate to EFS
where to also look for email recipients. So what header fields do
my emails have recipients in? Well, you can work this out very simply by setting
up your POP3 settings and having EFS retrieve some mail (ensure forwarding is temporarily disabled at this stage) Open one of the .MSG files (from the C:\Program Files\E.F.S\Inbox) folder in "notepad.exe" or a similar
text editing package. Search down the header of the message looking for all occurences of your domain name. If the recipient is in another header field, you can set that header in this screen. For example,
taking the header in the example above, you can see that a mail server has created an
X-Rcpt-To: header field (shown in bold above) that contains the final recipient for your domain. If
you find this is the case for all inbound emails, then you could add this field
to the headers list (as shown in the graphic to the right) You also may need to ignore the To: (and
possibly Cc:) field so that EFS doesn't look in those headers, especially if you
are receiving Duplicate Messages. Unfortuantely this may take a little bit of trial and error
and depends on your setup. Consult your ISP if you require furthur
assistance.
Use custom recipients as a last resort - this tells EFS to use the custom headers specified ONLY if no recipients were found in the default headers
Consider junk if no recipients found - if EFS does not find any recipients in the headers specified above, then consider the email 'Junk' mail and remove or, if Save To Disk is enabled, the message is saved to the C:\Program Files\E.F.S\Junk folder
From - this gives you the option to
specify a custom from field for EFS to look for the sender in, the default is From: It is highly unlikely you will need to use this option.
